September 23: Winnipeg MB/ Clearwater MB

Jason will be leaving us today to go and find work in Lake Louise/Banff (Alberta) whilst sarah and I go explore a folk festival in Clearwater MB.. It's hard to see him go! He'll be staying with my aunt in calgary and then heading out.

We made it to the festival at Clearwater.. Clearwater is home to 25 people (not even kidding) and we would have had to get dropped off by the bus at a town closest to Clearwater and then walk/hitch.. But the bus driver didn't want us to walk in the dark on the highway so he detoured and dropped us of at the festival in clearwater. We were local hero's when we got off the bus because there were 100s of people there for this 3 day folk festival, and everyone was like "I haven't seen a bus come into Clearwater for over 10 years!!" and so we were known at the festival as the 'girls from the bus'. We stayed for 3 days, sleeping to nights in our tent.. There was a village of tents, 3 huge bonfires which people were up till all hours jamming around, a dj in the community hall for all-night dance parties, and drinks for 3$. Live music, drumming, fair-trade products... We met some great people including Signe and her 2y/o son Charlie who hung out with us whilst we babysat for her a couple times over the weekend.. and a group of guys from Winnipeg who came and played music with us in front of our tent for a while. There was Pat -- a guy who I drummed with on the first night until about 2am by the fire.. Simon -- in his late 20s who came from the Yukon and could climb trees like it's nobody's business.. That's just the beginning.. Sarah and I had some drinks and I went dancing with this guy from Winnipeg and Sarah sat and talked to people around the fire. IT WAS A GREAT FIRST NIGHT.. We decided just to go for it and talk to as many people as possible. The rest of the weekend we lazed about, listened to music, hung out with people and went to a workshop where we learned to make all-natural lipbalm. GUESS WHAT YOU'RE ALL GETTING FOR CHRISTMAS!! I would love to go back to the festival again next year and take a group of friends... mmmmmhmmm! So next late september, plan a friday-sunday off where you can come with me to manitoba. :P
